CW seed have announced today that Constantine will be returning in the form of an animated series on the online platform.
Originally debuting as a live action tv series on NBC, Constantine was cancelled after the first season due to its lower than expected ratings, resulting in fans clamoring for the characters return.
Actor Matt Ryan went on to reprise the role in season 4 of Arrow, bolstering fans hopes that the character would receive his own show on the network. It appears for now that Constantine will be regulated to animated form on the CW seed. As with Vixen, the show will most likely be a part of the same universe as The flash, Arrow & Legends of Tomorrow, opening up opportunities for the character to return to live action in the future.
Executive Producer Greg Berlanti and writer David S. Goyer are reanimating Constantine on CW Seed, with Matt Ryan casting the spells.
No release date has been announced for the animated series at this time.
Matt Ryan can next be heard as John Constantine when Justice League Dark hits digital download services starting January 24th and on DVD and Blu-ray from February 7th.
