After having found plenty of success in recent years by reinterpreting their beloved films, Disney are now looking to bring back another classic for modern audiences in Mary Poppins Returns. Set for release at the end of 2018, the upcoming project will serve as a sequel to the original 1964 film starring Julie Andrews. In Depression-era London, a now-grown Jane and Michael Banks, along with Michael’s three children, are visited by the enigmatic Mary Poppins following a personal loss. Through her unique magical skills, and with the aid of her friend Jack, she helps the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives.
Rob Marshall (Into The Woods) is set to direct the film and produce the film, based off a screenplay by David Magee (Find Neverland). The cast so far includes Emily Blunt (Sicario), Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton), Meryl Streep (The Devil Wears Prada), Ben Whishaw (Skyfall), Colin Firth (The King’s Speech), Emily Mortimer (The Newsroom) and Dick Van Dyke (Mary Poppins) . Mary Poppins Returns is scheduled to fly into theaters on Christmas day, 2018.
