“And we’re off!”
Tomb Raider director Roar Uthaug confirmed the beginning of production today via a post on his instagram account:
Although the picture doesn’t show us any of the actors or locations, it does confirm the news we reported last month about the film’s start date. Filming on the production is expected to take place in both South Africa & The UK.
The plot of the film is said to be heavily inspired by the recent video game reboot, depicting a much younger and inexperienced Lara Croft as she struggles to survive on a crazed island upon being shipwrecked there. The film will be the first in a potential new series and the third live action Tomb Raider movie overall.
“Following the origins of a young Lara Croft on her first archaeological expedition she must use her strength and harness her skills in order to survive a crazed island cult and unlock mythological secrets surrounding her mysterious whereabouts”
Tomb Raider stars Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina), Walton Goggins (The Hateful Eight) and Daniel Wu (Into The Badlands). Roar Uthaug directs based on a script by Geneva Robertson-Dworet.
The film is currently scheduled for release on March 16th 2018.
