Marvel have just revealed that Game of Thrones alum Iwan Rheon will star as Maximus the Mad in the upcoming series, set to debut later this year. Interestingly enough, the casting report from The Hollywood Reporter lists Maximus the Mad as the main character of the series, rather than the characters elder brother and leader of the Inhuman royal, Black Bolt.
Maximus the Mad is usually portrayed as superhumanly intelligent, devising various schemes and creating highly advanced weapons and gadgets. He also has the ability to control the minds of others and influence is will onto his victims.
Head of Marvel TV Jeph Loeb had this to say about the casting: “Iwan’s ability to be charming, roguish and still completely unexpectedly dangerous were all the different sides we needed to bring the character to life. We’re thrilled to have him on board.”
Iron Fist showrunner Scott Buck will serve as showrunner and executive producer on the cosmic series. “Maximus is a complex character. Likable, charming, tragic and villainous all in the same moment, and I’m very excited to have someone of Iwan’s considerable talent” says Buck.
In a first for hollywood, the first two episodes of Marvel’s The Inhumans will screen on IMAX for two weeks starting Labor Day weekend, before the series continues on ABC as part of their fall line-up. Dutch filmmaker Roel Reine is currently preparing to direct the first two episodes of the anticipated series. Marvel’s The Inhumans will make its network premiere on September 26, 2017 on ABC.
