Marvel’s Star Wars: Darth Maul Trade Paperback Edition To Release In September

Marvel comics have recently unleashed a brand new comic book mini-series centered on Emperor Palpatine’s former Sith apprentice, Darth Maul. Though only one issue of the series has been released thus far, we may know when the series will be collected in paperback form, all thanks to a recent posting on amazon.ca

Darth Maul trade paperback release date

Amazon currently lists the release date for the trade paperback editon as September 5th, 2017, though this is most likely a placeholder date until Marvel release their official solicitations. While the release dates listed on the popular shopping site are subject to change, they do tend to be accurate at narrowing down the month of the books release.

Debuting in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, Darth Maul was one of the most well received parts of the much-maligned prequel. Although he was seemingly killed at the end of the movie, the Sith apprentice managed to survive by focusing on his hatred of young Jedi knight Obi-Wan Kenobi, the man who sliced him in half.

Pieced back together during The Clone Wars with the help of his brother and the magick wielding nightsisters, Maul later became a central figure in the deathwatch takeover of the planet Mandalore. He then challenged his former master, Darth Sidious, for control of the Sith.

Maul was last seen on Rebels episode “Visions and Voices,” when he extorted Ezra Bridger into uniting Jedi and Sith Holocrons to receive a vision. That vision sent him off to a planet with twin suns to find the one who “lives.” An epic confrontation on Tatooine between Maul and Kenobi was teased in the Rebels mid season 3 trailer seen below.

The previously released Son of Dathomir series explored the characters fate in between the events of The Clone Wars and Rebels. Though produced when the Star Wars license was still held by publisher Dark Horse Comics, the series remains a part of the official Star Wars canon.

The Synopsis for the first issue in the Darth Maul mini-series reads as follows: “Bred on hate, fear, and anger…steeped in the ways of darkness…and trained to kill. Darth Maul’s time as apprentice to Darth Sidious has long been cloaked in shadows, but at last we will reveal his tale of revenge. From writer Cullen Bunn (DEADPOOL KILLS THE MARVEL UNIVERSE, WOLVERINE) and artist Luke Ross (STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, HERCULES) comes a tale of rage unleashed as Darth Maul prepares for his first encounter with the Jedi.”
