Has David Ayer Revealed Villain for ‘Gotham City Sirens’?

Suicide Squad director David Ayer, who is set to return to the world of DC comics with the upcoming adaptation of Gotham City Sirens, may have just revealed the villain of the film in a post on his personal twitter page early Monday afternoon.

Ayer shared an image of the comic book villain Roman Sionis aka Black Mask, sparking speculation that the bad guy will featured as the main antagonist in the upcoming movie.

The character, who debuted in 1985’s Batman No. 386, is a mobster who seeks to rule the criminal underworld in Gotham City. In recent years he’s served as an adversary to Catwoman, who is also expected to appear as a central figure in the film. Black Mask also played a key role in 2013’s Arkham Origins video game.

The picture in question comes from 2006 Batman storyline Under the Red Hood, which has previously been adapted into a phenomenal animated film. In that story, the former Robin and recently resurrected Jason Todd returns to wage on Black Mask and the various criminal elements at play in Gotham City. Jason’s Robin costume can be seen on display in the Batcave in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

David Ayer is currently set to direct the film from a screenplay by Sherlock Holmes 3 and Tomb Raider writer Geneva Robertson-Dworet. Margot Robbie will reprise her role as Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad, as well as produce the film.
